Dr. Mlakar Announces Retirement

At the March 12 Board of Education Meeting, the Board approved the retirement of Dr. Melissa Mlakar, effective July 31, 2026. 
 
Dr. Mlakar has been with the Riverside Local School District for all 32 years of her remarkable educational career. For the past 15 years, she has served as the District’s Executive Director of Curriculum and Programming. 
 
Most recently, at the February 26, 2026 Board of Education Meeting, she was named Assistant Superintendent in recognition of her District leadership, executive level responsibilities and for her continued service to the Riverside Local School District. 
Throughout her storied career, she served in several other positions including a Language Arts and Social Studies teacher at LaMuth Middle School, Assistant Principal at Riverside Campus, Principal at Madison Avenue Elementary and Assistant Director of Pupil Services. 
 
She is also a very proud graduate of Riverside High School (as are her three children)!
 
Dr. Mlakar has been a passionate advocate for student and staff success throughout her entire career. Her dedication and commitment to excellence and her care for the entire Riverside community has been evident to anyone who she has crossed paths with. Her leadership has helped shape our District into what it is today and she has left an incredible mark on countless individuals. 
 
We'd like to thank Dr. Mlakar for her unwavering commitment and dedication to the Riverside Local School District.
